Description

For the first time ever, Catholic Guilt brings their signature chainmail workshop to Los Angeles. Hosting workshop days July 18 and 19.

Join designer and artist Ella Jackson for an intimate introduction into the world of chainmail, exploring the ancient craft through a contemporary lens of couture, sculpture, and wearable art.

Over the course of the workshop, Ella will guide students through the foundational techniques behind her work, teaching a selection of essential chainmail weaves alongside her approach to tailoring, draping and building forms directly on the body.

No previous experience is required. This class is designed for complete beginners, whether you are an artist, designer, maker, stylist, performer, or simply curious about the craft. All materials and tools are provided.

ONE DAY WORKSHOP

Learn the foundations of chainmail construction and create your own smaller-scale piece to take home. Students can expect to complete an item such as a piece of jewellery, glovelet, bralette, or another wearable object of a similar size.

TWO DAY WORKSHOP

Go deeper into construction, shaping and design, allowing time to create a larger or more intricate piece. Students can work towards a chainmail top, detailed bralette, headpiece, or another custom creation of a similar scale.

Throughout the workshop, you’ll learn:

— Basic chainmail weaves and construction methods

— Tailoring and draping techniques

— How to approach chainmail as both garment and sculpture

— Methods for developing your own designs

All students will leave with a finished handmade piece, a foundation in chainmail technique, and an insight into the process behind Catholic Guilt’s one-of-a-kind creations.

Limited places available.

Catering supplied. Please leave any dietary requirements in the order comments.
