Fragment Ultra Crop
Description
Stainless Steel & Red Carnelian
A delicate remnant of something once whole. An intimate piece of armour, suspended somewhere between antique lingerie and the deteriorating remains of a forgotten ceremonial garment.
The Fragment Ultra Crop reimagines the traditional brassiere through Catholic Guilt’s distinctive language of sculptural chainmail, transforming stainless steel into an intricate composition of fragmented lace, organic formations and cascading chains.
Meticulously handcrafted using Catholic Guilt’s proprietary Alien Flesh Wound technique, the piece features an irregular network of interwoven metal that appears to unravel across the bust. Delicate, open-weave structures are interrupted by sculptural formations resembling wounds in the fabric, each punctuated by deep red carnelian stones embedded like precious droplets of blood.
Fine chains drape across the décolletage and fall beneath the bust, creating the illusion of a once-elaborate antique undergarment slowly surrendering to the passage of time.
Drawing upon the visual language of Victorian lingerie, archaeological relics and ceremonial armour, the Ultra Crop explores the tension between exposure and concealment, vulnerability and protection. Its abbreviated silhouette reveals as much as it adorns, allowing the body itself to become an integral part of the composition.
Neither entirely lingerie nor jewellery, the piece exists somewhere between a sacred vestment, an intimate armour and the surviving fragment of a civilisation that never existed.
A relic of forgotten intimacy, its delicate deterioration immortalised in steel.
