‘Fragment I’ Collar
Description
Stainless Steel
An ornament of beautiful disrepair. A delicate relic of something once whole, now suspended in a state of perpetual unravelling.
The Fragment I Collar reimagines the traditional necklace through the sculptural language of Catholic Guilt, transforming stainless steel into an intricate composition of deteriorating lace, tangled metal and cascading chains.
Meticulously handcrafted using Catholic Guilt’s proprietary chainmail techniques, the piece combines delicate, open-weave structures with irregular formations that appear to grow organically across the collarbone. Fine chains fall from its fragmented edges, tracing the contours of the décolletage like the remnants of a once-elaborate ceremonial adornment.
Inspired by the fragile beauty of antique lace and the romance of objects surrendered to time, the collar explores the tension between permanence and impermanence. Its seemingly delicate construction is rendered entirely in stainless steel, preserving the appearance of decay in a material designed to endure.
Neither entirely necklace nor armour, Fragment I exists somewhere between a Victorian mourning ornament, an archaeological relic and a second skin.
A fragment of a forgotten finery, its deterioration immortalised in metal.
